In a recent development, a televised clip from Russian state television revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin has raised concerns over the use of US-supplied munitions by Ukraine against Russian forces. According to the clip, Putin threatened to respond with cluster bombs if Ukraine employs these internationally prohibited cluster munitions.

The situation arose after Russian forces successfully repelled a coordinated attack by nine Ukrainian drones on the Crimean peninsula, as reported by the Moscow authorities. The attempted attack was described as a "terrorist attack" by the Russian ministry on Telegram. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries resulting from the thwarted attack.

In response to the incident and the supply of cluster munitions by the United States, Putin issued a warning to Ukraine. He emphasized that Russia possesses significant reserves of various types of cluster munitions but expressed reluctance to employ them. However, he made it clear that should these munitions be used against Russian forces, he reserves the right to take appropriate actions in retaliation.

It is essential to note that both Russian and Ukrainian forces have faced accusations of using cluster bombs by human rights activists. Despite these accusations, Putin denied their use by Russian forces, although he acknowledged a previous shortage of ammunition on the Russian side.

This recent incident highlights the tense situation between Russia and Ukraine, drawing international attention and concern. The use of such munitions and the potential for further escalation demand careful diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and promote peaceful resolutions to the ongoing conflict.
